The Eroica HX is Goldring's answer to the question every serious vinyl listener eventually asks: what do I need to do to go moving coil? The answer here is nothing. This is a high-output MC cartridge built to run straight into a standard moving magnet phono input, at 47 kilohms, with no step-up transformer, no specialist phono stage, no system changes at all. You pull out your MM cartridge and drop this in its place.
The performance comes from a pure-iron cross-armature generator with ultra-fine enamelled copper windings. The cross-armature design reduces crosstalk and keeps the effective mass low, while the winding gauge and count are optimised to produce the 2.5 mV output needed to drive an MM stage directly without losing any of the resolution that makes moving coil worth the trouble. The Gyger II diamond stylus traces the groove to 50 kHz, well beyond what any recording contains, and handles it without distortion. The body is cast from Pocan composite, a material chosen specifically because it does not ring or colour the signal passing through it.
