The cross-armature design reduces crosstalk and keeps the effective mass low, while the winding gauge and count are optimised to produce the 2.5 mV output needed to drive an MM stage directly without losing any of the resolution that makes moving coil worth the trouble. The Gyger II diamond stylus traces the groove to 50 kHz, well beyond what any recording contains, and handles it without distortion.
