The Ethos SE is the definitive expression of everything Goldring knows about moving coil cartridge design. Built on the acclaimed Ethos platform, it takes each element of the original and pushes it further: pure silver coils, low-reluctance pole shoes, and a black anodised aircraft-grade aluminium body. The result competes convincingly with cartridges costing considerably more.
Silver coils replace the Ethos's oxygen-free copper, delivering fewer windings with higher conductivity. This reduces both effective tip mass and internal impedance, producing faster transient response and improved tracking ability throughout the frequency range. New low-reluctance pole shoes work alongside the cross-armature Swedish iron core to raise channel separation and extend the frequency response smoothly in both directions.
The Vital line-contact diamond stylus, with its narrow, low-mass, large contact-area profile, retrieves high frequency groove detail with exceptional finesse while minimising record wear. Trackability is measured at 90 microns at 315 Hz. The black anodised aluminium body is selected for its combination of low density and superior rigidity, dissipating resonances into the tonearm rather than letting them colour the sound.
Low-output moving coil design. Sensitivity 0.35 mV. Requires an MC phono stage or step-up transformer. Load resistance 100 ohms recommended. Tracking weight 1.5 to 2.0 grams. Stylus is non-replaceable; a factory re-tip service is available.
